HumanArts Theater Company is a 501(c)3 non-profit theater company committed:
1) to creating unique works of theater that explore what it means to be human, addressing the human condition in positive, proactive ways
2) to making theater that is more than good entertainment, but an immersive experience
3) to continually exploring new ways of storytelling through the use of new technologies, making theater relevant for future generations
4) to being an artistic haven, a "gathering place" for an extended family of artists and audiences, where our common humanity is explored and celebrated and where we continually make new connections with our community
5) to inspiring our audiences to explore and nurture the human artistry that lies within all of us
We are living in especially challenging times. With cuts in Arts Education programs at an all time high, we are witnessing an alarming trend in our country: the systematic marginalization of the Arts in our schools and communities.
All too often we hear the Arts referred to as an "elective," not as vital to our society as math, english, science, and athletics.
We believe this statement is intrinsically false.
While we do not want to downplay the importance of these critical disciplines, we also cannot sit back and watch as Arts programs are treated as second-rate.
The Arts have been, and will always be, at the core of our humanity. From the very beginning, cave dwellers wrote on walls and danced around campfires to document and share their magical experiences. Their art was an expression of their humanity. Art and humanity were one in the same, impossible to separate from each other.
We believe that is still true today.
In this fast and ever-changing world it is easy to forget that as humans, we are artists. Our mission as a theater company is to remind our communities, our cities, our country and our world that humanity cannot exist, nor does it have a chance at survival, without art.
Thus, we've combined the words Human and Arts to create the name of our company as one powerful statement. It is the core of who we are as artists and who we are as a company. We are working to re-establish the Arts as a vital element in our schools and communities.
